Back to Austen
Just a very quick observation on ep two of ITV 1’s Lost in Austen which aired last night. It’s actually, in my humble opinion, not very good.
It look sumptuous and ticks all the right costume drama boxes and Amanda Price, Jemima Rooper’s character, looks suitably out of place in all the Regency action and finery. But there’s a simple reason for that and it’s not to do with the gags about “lippy”, “paracetamols” and other 21st century minutiae that Price has dragged into the 19th century in her time travels.
No, if I may be so bold, the problem with watching this is that Rooper has such a common face. Or maybe it’s the under-bite. But compared to the actresses playing the various Austen ladies, she is just plain, plain, plain. I can’t stop looking at her jaw which looks as if she’s harbouring two little marshmallows just inside her lower lip to munch on later.
Sorry. I’m sure she’s really nice and everything. But I don’t think I’ll be watching next week.

Yes, as the story unfolds, although only up till episode 2, I think I probably won’t be watching again. Indeed, “not very good”

This blurb is all well and good and I am fully signed up to be one of your blog fans, but Why Oh Why Oh Why, complement your writing with a tired block of ugly flats! What’s urban sprawl got to do with Austen, Worzel Gummidge, or your murderous night-time regime. In other words where are the fucking leaves and blackberries gone (to)! hee hee!

Thanks, Andy - appreciate the design tips! This is all work in progress so bear with me. Lots of people life in flats of some kind of urban sprawl and C4 did a programme this week about property prices which is where I got the shot from. I will, however, replace it with a C4 logo - just for you, because you seem to care. But blackberries and leaves, while lovely, were the standard pictures that came with this WordPress theme and are a little to twee for me. I’ll save those pics for my ‘Cooking with Lucy From the Shires’ blog. Watch this space xx

Sorry - that should be ‘lots of people LIVE in flats’ not ‘life’. Bloody bloggers
