Worzel Gummidge
A quick word on the ‘news’ that Worzel Gummidge and RentaGhost are set to return to our screens, which has already sent 30-something media types into a smallĀ frenzy of TV nostalgia .
A cursory glance at the press release sent out today makes it clear that what’s actually happened is that an independent production company, RDF (best known for making Wife Swap and other lifestyle formats), has done a deal with one oddly named Patrick Pidgeon to TRY to get these two children’s shows back on screen.
Pidgeon’s claim to fame so far is that he produced a “musical stage adaptation” of RentaGhost two years ago, which toured the UK to “flattering reviews”, according to the RDF press release.
A commission from Five is surely only days away. And thus TV trends are set by journalists following up press releases on a quiet Monday morning.
